Like a Dragon series director, Masayoshi Yokoyama revealed during a Ryu Ga Gotoku episode that they intend to make the third Kiwami game in the near future.
Masayoshi Yokoyama, the director of the Like A Dragon series of games, appeared on an episode of Ryu Ga Gotoku where he announced that they’ll be holding another round of auditions for a live-action cast.
Yokoyama also clarified during the announcement that the auditions are for an untitled Like a Dragon installment, not the long-awaited Kiwami 3.
However, Yokoyama also assured Kiwami fans that Kiwami 3 is on the table. “We’ll definitely do it sooner or later,” he added during the interview.
Kiwami is the title attached to the remakes of the popular Yakuza series of games for the PlayStation 2. The word Kiwami is the reading for the kanji used as a logo for the game series and means “Extreme.”
The first two Yakuza games, Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2, have been remade and released as “extreme” versions of the original games. Before this reveal, the studio had not announced a Kiwami 3, which fans remember for its graphics despite being a PS2 title.
The five original games were remastered and released as a collection in 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
As for the live-action audition, Yokoyama did not reveal which game in the Like a Dragon series it will be for.
However, since there was already a similar audition before for Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, it’s likely that this would be for a new Gaiden spin-off or the sequel to Infinite Wealth.
