Collecting epic pieces of weaponry and finding cool pieces of armour are key parts of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. You play as Jack, a strong warrior who is solely devoted to seeking out and destroying Chaos. Alongside your allies, Jed, Ash, Neon, and Sophia, you must embark on a dangerous quest to bring back the light of the crystals.
You can collect equipment throughout the game and apply it to the entire team. As the main character (and the only one you play as), Jack can be given all of the equipment. His teammates can be given some, but it's usually items that are tailored to them. If you find some items that you really like, but don't want to throw away when something better comes along, you can upgrade them instead.
In this guide, we break down everything you need to know about equipment, including how to upgrade it.
How to Collect Equipment
You can collect equipment pieces such as weapons and pieces of armour throughout the game. You can do this in a few different ways:
- Treasure Boxes: As you explore each area, you can come across and open white and blue boxes. They can spit out a variety of items for you to collect.
- Purple Clusters: Some areas contain ominous purple floating clusters. Walk up to them and interact with them to collect the items in them.
- Mission Rewards: You are given pieces of equipment for completing missions.
- Defeating Enemies: Some enemies will drop items after you defeat them. This is most common with larger enemies.
How to Upgrade Equipment
If you collect a piece of equipment that you adore and don't want to part with, you can upgrade it. You must be in the World Menu before entering a mission to be able to do this.
When you are in this menu, press the appropriate control to bring up the "Main Menu". At the top of this menu, there should be three little icons. You need to use the correct control to skip to the "Cornelia" Menu (the House icon). Here, you'll have two options, and the one you need to select is "Smithy".
This will bring up another menu which should have two options on it:
- Upgrade Special Effect
- Dismantle
To upgrade your equipment, select "Upgrade Special Effect" and this will take you into a detailed menu. Here, you can pick any pieces of your equipment to upgrade. The weapons can be found under the icon of a Sword and a Lance, then the pieces of armour can be found under the clothing icon at the top of the screen on the left.
When you find the item you want to upgrade, click on it to open up yet another menu. You can then pick any of the item's "Equipment Effects" to upgrade. Click on the effect you want to upgrade and another menu will open on the right of the screen.
Here, you will be able to choose how much you upgrade that effect, and how many materials the upgrade will cost. When you're happy with your choice, use the prompted control to apply the upgrade.
How to Get Upgrade Materials
To get upgrade materials, head back to the Smithy menu and select the "Dismantle" option. This will open up a screen where you can see all of your pieces of equipment separated into their categories.
When you hover over a piece of equipment, you will be shown what materials you can gain for dismantling it on the right of your screen. If you want to continue to dismantle it, use the prompted control to "Select" the item. (You can find the control at the bottom of your screen).
Once you have selected the item, use the prompted control (this can be found at the bottom of your screen) to dismantle the item. The game will check if you are sure, if you are then select "yes" and the item will be dismantled.

How to Store Equipment
To store equipment that you want to keep but you have no room to carry, head back to the World Menu. Open up the "Main Menu" and select the "Items" option. This will take you to a screen where you can see all of the items in your inventory.
You can only store Weapons and pieces of Armour. To do this, select the item or items that you want to store using the prompted control at the bottom of your screen. Once you have selected them, use the prompted control (again, this is at the bottom of the screen) to open the menu. Here, you'll have three storage options:
- Open Storage: This will open up your storage to show you everything that's currently in there.
- Send Item to Storage: This will send any selected items to storage.
- Sent All Equipment to Storage: This will send all of your equipment to storage at once.
Sending items to storage is a great way of keeping the pieces that you don't want to get rid of just yet.
