Given how fighting games are designed now, players can always expect new characters to be added over time to extend the game’s lifespan.
With Mai Shiranui coming to Street Fighter VI in February, fans only have one more character to look forward to in March: Elena.
Elena is Coming to Street Fighter VI
Elena is the last fighter in the official announcement for Year 2, which includes M. Bison, Terry Bogard, and, most recently released, Mai Shiranui. Here’s a tease of how Elena will look in the game:
Unlike the last two heroes, Terry and Mai, who were guest fighters from the Fatal Fury franchise, Elena is a homegrown Street Fighter character introduced to players in 1997, when Street Fighter III: A New Generation was released.
Though Elena doesn’t have the same mascot status as characters like Chun-li or Cammy, she has been showing up in several games, being a playable character in Street Fighter x Tekken and Ultra Street Fighter IV. She may not have been playable for SFV, but she still makes a cameo, and now she’s expected to show up in SFVI.
What’s Elena Like in Street Fighter
Elena is a good choice for the Capoeira fighting character, as in every other game. Dee Jay originally filled that role, but Elena adds charm to the fighting style and makes a unique impression with her looks and towering height.
Elena is one of the later girls introduced in the franchise. The series shows her entering high school and hanging out with other young women, including Sakura, Ibuki, and Makoto.
In the game, Elena hails from Africa and is a princess of her nation. The backstory of how she finds herself interacting with everyone is that she’s an exchange student, and she even studies in France later in her story.
As far as her moveset goes, Elena freely dances around the battlefield and uses her long legs to land blows on her enemies. She also has a special move that allows her to regenerate health mid-battle. Interestingly, her visual flair was said to have been chosen as a way for the devs at Capcom to show off the graphical power of the CPS-3 board.
It’s not clear yet how much Elena will change for Street Fighter VI, but they already gave her a less revealing outfit, and other players online have been complaining about her healing ability, so maybe Capcom could find a way to nerf that for the game.
Elena has not announced a release date, but maybe Capcom will be ready to tease her by mid-March. A launch in May does seem realistic.
Elena is expected to join Street Fighter VI in the spring of this year. The game is now playable on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
