CD Projekt Red has spent the last few years bringing Cyberpunk back from the dead. After a job well done with Phantom Liberty, the studio is now ready to return to an old, reliable franchise: The Witcher.

Only bits and pieces are known about The Witcher IV, and while the game looks to be taking a new direction with Ciri as the new lead, it has a surprising number of veteran developers attached to the production.
Veteran Witcher Devs on Witcher IV
As revealed by CDPR’s co-CEO Michal Nowakowski, over 100 of the developers on Witcher IV have worked on the previous game, Wild Hunt. What’s more, the game has some developers attached to the Witcher series since way back during the first game.
With a new lead character as the face of the franchise, many fans were admittedly worried that the series would lose its magic without Geralt of Rivia. Still, with the revelation that many developers have been part of the same team for decades, fans should rest assured that they’re in good and familiar hands.
What’s New with Ciri
Despite many developers being from the old games, fans are hopeful that The Witcher IV will manage to introduce many newer things to the franchise. With Ciri as the new lead, there are a lot of opportunities to expand on her skillset; after all, she wasn’t just raised by Geralt but by Yennefer as well. Ciri likely has both skills of a top-notch Witcher and sorceress in her arsenal.
While no official gameplay has been revealed, the announcement teased that Ciri has some newer skills. Besides her eyes turning a different color from Geralt after she drinks a potion, it’s also revealed that she has a chain gauntlet (not unlike Kratos’ Blades of Chaos) that she can use to entrap enemies; what’s more, Ciri can also channel magic through the chains to inflict extra effects on whatever’s ensnared in them.
A New Trilogy
It has been announced that The Witcher IV is expected to be a new trilogy for the franchise, with Ciri as the lead. Although it’s unclear where her story will lead this time, this allows the game writers to be more creative with her journey.
With Geralt’s adventures even taking inspiration from other fairy tales, it will be fascinating to see where the series will take Ciri this time. With Geralt being highly sexualized in his games, it’s curious if CDPR will do the same with Ciri in the sequel. The developers have never been shy of mature content regarding their titles, so The Witcher IV should also be expected to include Ciri’s sexuality factor in the overall gameplay experience.
What are the odds that she’s going to be bi?
No release date has been set for The Witcher IV, but fans hope the game will be available by 2026.
